Born in Hunt County, Texas in 1876, Lockett Adair lost both of his parents by the age of five and was raised by his Christian grandparents. At just six years old, he felt a divine calling to become an evangelist — a call he ran from for years, but never escaped. After serving as a constable, deputy sheriff, U.S. marshal, and police officer in Dallas, he finally answered that call, leaving behind law enforcement to become one of the most impactful revivalists in Texas history.

He preached in tents across Dallas and rural Texas, often in the poorest districts, and eventually traveled city to city holding massive revival meetings. In Brady, Texas, his 1911 revival converted over 450 people in two weeks, shutting down businesses and courts as the entire town gathered to hear him speak. He was known for his conviction, his charisma, and his refusal to apologize for telling hard truths.
